Focus Group Artificial Intelligence
The group focuses on questions around Artificial Intelligence in research. The Focus Group aims at managing a network, coordinating projects as well as consulting and informing UniBE members.
The seemingly endless breadth of exploration of artificial intelligence in research can be seen, for example, in the work areas and organisation of Mila, Quebec's Institute for Artificial Intelligence. There are also a number of groups at the University of Bern that have both a research and application focus. The focus group at the University of Bern is equally broad-based, but is particularly sensitive to new technological developments and social challenges and endeavours to be able to act on them.
The focus group pursues the following goals:
- The timely discussion of new technologies and their consequences and significance for research (coordination with other partners, e.g. teaching)
- Discussion of good scientific practice against the background of the development and emergence of new technologies and the processing of new questions
- Possible solutions for current challenges relating to methodological and content-related issues of artificial intelligence for the University of Bern
- Networking and sensitisation of the UniBE research community
- Advising the Digitalisation Commission and the University Executive Board
The focus group is supported by the Digitisation Commission of the University of Bern.
Regular partners of the focus group are:
- KILOF Community - Artificial Intelligence in teaching, organisation and research
- Data Science Lab
- Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine
- IT Services Office
- Communication and Marketing Office
- Series events: Critical Perspectives on Digitalization
- Vice-Rectorate Teaching

Guidelines - responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in research and research on AI
Like everywhere else, research at the University of Bern on and with AI is steadily increasing. This development can help us to remain relevant and to continue to conduct cutting-edge research. The vision of the focus group is that the University of Bern promotes AI-related research and at the same time creates good conditions. The guidelines help to create such favourable conditions.
